# 日本語では隔離と訳される事が多いisolation とQuarantine．

Isolation separates sick people with a contagious disease from people who are not sick.
Quarantine separates and restricts the movement of people who were exposed to a contagious disease to see if they become sick. These people may have been exposed to a disease and do not know it, or they may have the disease but do not show symptoms.
Isolationは病気に罹患した人を他者と分ける事。
quarantineは感染症に暴露した人が発症するかどうか見極めるために、他者と分けるか移動制限する事。
例えば、空港で入国した人を二週間ホテルに缶詰にするのがQuarantine．
新型コロナと診断された人を他人と接触しない施設に入院させるのはIsolation.
因みに、Quarantineの語源はイタリア語の Quatanta giorniで、40日間と言う意味らしい。ペストが流行した時に、ペスト流行国から来た船をイタリアの港で40日間停泊させた事から来たとのこと。
